Every so often, self-pity can create doubt in God’s plan for us. Today we see God seek Elijah, calling him out of his hiding in faithlessness to once again teach that we are never alone—and God isn’t finished with us yet!
After witnessing God’s awesome victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah is confronted with the disappointment of depression. But God’s lesson continues! He teaches us that although fatigue may distort our thoughts, He is always faithful, and He will never let us be tempted beyond what we can bear.

The will of God absolutely includes tests of believing, and of hard refining. But armed with faith, Elijah discovers that God always mercifully provides saving sustenance when the lesson is learned.
The Christian life isn’t always easy. There are times of drought and doubt. But as Elijah discovers in 1 Kings 17, God’s tests are faith-building, fruit-bearing and always life-changing.
The life of Elijah is a powerful example of a man who lived by faith. Elijah came from obscurity and though his days were filled with both joys and sorrows, his life would prove to be an exciting testimony to the faithfulness of the one, true God.
